Steckle Heritage Farm offers educators the opportunity to enrich and expand their curriculum in a hands-on and experiential learning environment. We offer programs for Preschool through Grade 6 on a seasonal basis. We also can offer unique tours and programs for older students, and community organizations. Call and discover the exciting ways we can make Agriculture, Heritage and Respect for Land and Each Other come alive! School programs run in September through early November and April through the end of June. Morning and afternoon sessions are available. Be sure to call and schedule your program time well in advance as our spots fill up fast!

SCHOOL  TOURS   at   the  Farm  in  the  City!

Fall Tours at Steckle Heritage Farm is an opportunity to take your students out of the traditional classroom and bring them to our “farm school”.   Our goal is to make the importance of agriculture come alive to students, and create a learning opportunity where they can learn up close what goes on outside of the City at farms around Ontario.

Spring at the Farm is one of growth and change!

  • Visiting Animals that live on Ontario Farms

  • A snack (nut free) + playtime in the barn
  • Max. 60 students at a time.
  • $6.50 per student 
Urban and Rural Connections:  grade 3 (2 hours)Students will learn about the physical features and importance of rural communities through hands on activities.  Information covered will include buildings typical of rural areas (barns and their different uses, silos), natural features like windbreaks, what animals are common in rural Ontario, how Urban communities are connected to rural areas.  Classes will rotate in small groups and each tour includes:
  • Wagon ride
  • Meeting Animals typical of Ontario Agriculture (up close!)
  • Discovering what grows in Ontario
  • Building walk and Barn discovery
  • $6.50 per student

Offered in the Spring (May-June) only

 

Harvest on the Farm: JK/SK and up

Fall:  (1.5hrs)Students will discover what is being harvested at farms and how it grew!  From potatoes to pumpkins, and apples to corn.  Classes rotate through stations which include: 

Wagon Ride

Nut Free Snack 

Playtime in Barn

Harvesting Fall Produce

Meeting Ontario Farm Animals

 Email us at  info@stecklehomestead.ca  with your grade, preferred dates and time, and your school name. Tours are offered in the morning and afternoon.  We do our best to accommodate your school start/end times. We book small groups with minimum charge of $50, to a maximum of 60 children per tour.

We are flexible and will do our best to accommodate your needs.  Get in touch!

1 Parent per 6 student free of charge!
